# Where can I find instructions on saliva sample collection?

Saliva sample kits include:

- Two (2) saliva collection tubes with stabilizing liquid
- Funnel for easy collection
- Biohazard bag with absorbent pad
- Pre-labeled shipping materials

**Exceptions:**

- Multiple permitted tests can be run from a single saliva sample, but DNA yield is limited, and additional samples may be required.

**Collection Guidelines:**

- **Do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum** for at least **30 minutes before** collection.
- **Rub cheeks** to stimulate saliva production.
- Fill each tube with saliva (not bubbles) up to the **fill line**.
- Close the funnel lid **firmly until you hear a click**.
- Store the sample **at room temperature (15 - 30°C/59 - 89°F)** and ship within **1 week** of collection.

**Labeling:**

Label each tube with:

- **Patient's full name**
- **Patient's date of birth**
- **Sample collection date**

**Rejection Criteria:**

Saliva specimens will be rejected if:

- **The preservative solution leaks.**
- **The sample is underfilled.**
- **The transport tube is unlabeled** or missing patient identifiers.

***Shipping:***

- Use the **pre-labeled FedEx Clinical Pak** provided.
- Shippingcan take up to **3-5 business days.**
